The construction commencing today, together with the already constructed Phase I, solves the construction of an increased capacity bypass of Frýdek-Místek which will divert all transit traffic from the city. This will significantly reduce noise in the city, improve air quality and significantly increase safety. The construction of the bypass will also remove the last section of the D48 motorway which runs through this densely built-up area. However, the bypass of Frýdek-Místek is not the only construction currently underway on the D48. We are also building the motorway covering the section between Rybí and Rychaltice and next year we will start construction between Bělotín and Šenov near Nový Jičín,” said Radek Mátl, authorized director the Road and Motorway Directorate while introducing the construction of the D48 motorway.

The current route through Frýdek-Místek causes negative noise impact on the surrounding residential development and is a source of frequent traffic accidents. No less serious is the fact that current carriageway is near to its maximum capacity. In order to continue to perceive this carriageway as a high quality road and to relieve the city centre from transit traffic, it is necessary to relocate the traffic out of the residential areas.
